If my math skills are still adequate, this show marked the 31st year in a
row that I've hosted a Christmas special on the Sunday before Christmas. I
developed and began hosting/producing WFDU-FM's TRADITIONS in 1980, and as
Christmas approached I felt a need to put together an afternoon of
TRADITIONAL holiday songs - sort of an antidote to the commercial "hits"
that were being heard in every other radio stations as well as shopping
malls, dentist offices and elevators across throughout the region. In 1980,
I was able to find enough "folkie" LP's to fill the three hours.

Flashing forward to 2010, I am amazed at the wealth of wonderful recordings
our folk community has produced over the past 30 years. The diversity of
songs and subjects related to Christmas can create hours of interesting
programming for listeners.

A special shout out to Hudson Harding for their annual holiday CD's. Their
recordings are treasured additions to any holiday related program. Also,
Christine Lavin has done a wonderful job producing the new collection "Just
One Angel". In addition to being one of our fines performers, Christine
has been a guardian angel to the folk music community her entire career, and
her latest gift should be heard on every radio program that posts on Folk
DJ!

Speaking of holidays, I have the honor of hosting "A New Year's Eve Hoot", a
three hour countdown to New Year's that will be heard beginning at 9pm
Eastern time on New Year's Eve, exclusively on Sirius XM's Channel 15 "The
Village". I get to be a folk music version of Dick Clark this year! Again,
our folk community has created some beautiful songs on the topic of New
Years, and I had a great time putting this show together.
